Lego Models

I am unabashedly a huge fan of Lego. Occasionally, I design models for the contests hosted by Lego Ideas, using what is essentially a brick-centric CAD program. Enjoy!

Spaceship

I designed this model for a “moon-to-mars” themed contest. I wanted to start with a classic spaceship and build in the cartoonish, goofy feeling that I associate with Lego. The final design ended up being a lovely red spacecraft powered by “green” energy; an astronaut on a bicycle.

The contest for this model was themed “Alternative Nature”, and I took inspiration from sci-fi concept art of large trees taking over city structures. I wanted to include roots that have lifted the structure off the ground; in this case a large “concrete” Lego brick. The askew nature of the brick was a challenge to balance, but by adding lots of foliage to cover the support structure, the end result came out looking pretty clean. (From this angle, at least!)
